They knew everything about the neighborhood: the family stories, the relatives living abroad, who was arguing with whom, how people got along with their children, even the PIN to their bank card! They traveled in the rain, crossed mountain ridges along the border, trudged through knee-deep snow, whether to deliver a letter, a loaf of bread, or a life-saving medicine. Four former postmen take us on a journey from Spetses to the Pomak villages, from Rhodes to the stonemasons’ villages of Epirus, bringing to life an era when the postman rang the bell and the whole village came running to welcome him.

Istorima is the largest oral history project in Greece. Over 1,000 young researchers seek out storytellers across the country, listening to and preserving memories: stories of love, of place, of change – moments that shaped lives and identities. These are the untold stories that history books leave behind. The initiative was created by journalist Sofia Papaioannou.
