Tribute to Franz Kafka | 30 Dec. 2024, 19:00

On Monday, December 30, 2024, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM (Athens time), the program “Our Town” will present a special tribute to author Franz Kafka.

Marking 100 years since the death of the Czech writer, the program will explore various aspects of his literary journey, key milestones in his life, and the profound influence he continues to exert as a towering figure in the literary world.

In the studio, Lucia Kuligova, Director of the Czech Center in Athens, will discuss Kafka’s contributions to literature and the prominent role Prague—the city where he lived—plays in his legacy. The program will also highlight numerous events celebrating Kafka.

Actors Arietta Moutousi and Stelios Mainas will read selected texts, while musicians Sofia Mavrogenidou (flute) and Barbara Maria Willi (church organ) will perform works by Czech composers. The children’s choir of the Contemporary Conservatory of Art in Athens will sing traditional Czech carols.

Additionally, the program will honor the eminent Czech composer Bedřich Smetana, commemorating the 200th anniversary of his birth.
