Konstantinos Bakas: Greek children in Germany demand equal access to Greek-language education

The issues raised during their recent visit to Athens and their meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Parliament were discussed by Mr. Konstantinos Bakas, President of the Federation of Parents’ and Guardians’ Associations of North Rhine-Westphalia, in an interview on Voice of Greece and the show Take Your Time with Prokopis Agelopoulos.

Among the topics Mr. Bakas addressed, which constitute the demands of the Greek community, are:

  • Legislative measures to ensure the timely staffing of school units.
  • Incentives/benefits to make teacher secondments more attractive.
  • Redefining the years of attendance in an overseas school required to qualify as an expatriate student or creating a special category for those with less than three years of schooling abroad.
  • Separating the national exams for students abroad from the resit exams of general high schools in Greece.
  • Developing a modern curriculum for the German language.
  • Easier access to KEDASY (Centers for Educational and Counseling Support) for students with learning difficulties.
  • Providing children access to the digital tutoring program.
