The show “Take Your Time” with Prokopis Angelopoulos hosted Spyros Yamas, President and Founder of the Elena Iliopoulou Yamas Foundation – Research and Scholarships for Cancer Treatment and Prevention, in the studio.
Mr. Yamas was born in 1962 in Zambia, Africa, to Greek parents and moved to Greece in 1974, where he graduated from the English-speaking Campion School. He continued his studies at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, earning a BSc (Hons) degree in Fuel & Energy Engineering.
He worked in South Africa for four years in executive positions in various companies before returning to Greece in 1987. After selling the steel trading company he founded and developed, he established CD Media in 1994, serving as President and CEO—a role he still holds today. Mr. Yamas has over 38 years of experience in business, including executive management, company acquisitions and sales, as well as investments in the shipping and real estate sectors.
Following the passing of his wife, Elena Iliopoulou Yamas, who succumbed to colorectal cancer after a three-year battle and multiple treatment attempts, he founded the Elena Iliopoulou Yamas Foundation – Research and Scholarships for Cancer Treatment and Prevention in 2021, immediately after her passing. His aim was to honor her name, love, and memory, and to continue the legacy of hope and determination with which she fought.
The foundation’s mission is to provide funding for PhD and postdoctoral students, as well as researchers who lack the means to self-finance and are conducting research on cancer treatment, diagnosis, and prevention, with a particular focus on colorectal cancer.
