On Sunday, March 30, at 12:00 PM (Athens time), the show Our Town will present a special tribute to Stella Haskil.
The renowned Greek singer, considered one of the greatest voices of the difficult interwar years, uniquely interpreted the works of legendary Greek popular composers such as Tsitsanis, Kaldaras, Chiotis, Vamvakaris, Binis, and others.
Joining the studio of Voice of Greece will be actress and singer Marianna Polychronidi, who portrays the titular role in the theatrical production The Other Stella, and Haskil researcher and author Efi Machimari. They will share unique stories about Haskil’s turbulent yet brief life, her hometown Thessaloniki, the hardships of the Jewish persecution, wartime Athens, the destruction of Smyrna, and her early recordings.
Director of the play Themis Moumoulidis will also contribute to the discussion.
The show will feature some of Haskil’s most beloved songs—she recorded over 130—that have remained unforgettable, just like her extraordinary voice.
Broadcast: Sunday, March 30, at 12:00 PM (Athens time) – with a repeat airing on Monday, March 31, at 4:00 AM.
