Voice of Greece honors the anniversary of the Polytechnic Uprising | 15 -17 Nov. 2025

Voice of Greece marks the 52nd anniversary of the Polytechnic Uprising together with Greeks around the world, presenting a series of dedicated commemorative broadcasts.

Saturday, 15 November 2025
At 10:00 Athens time, “Ariadni’s Thread” with Ariadni-Sofia Kouri welcomes singer Natalia Kotsani and accordionist Vangelis Papageorgiou for a two-hour tribute titled “Songs of Struggle” – songs from Greece and around the world written to encourage, unite, and remind us that nothing is won without effort.
At 13:00, Voice of Greece airs the special anniversary edition of “Historical Walks” with Marilena Katsimi, featuring Kostis Kornetis, author of Children of the Dictatorship. The episode examines how the Greek experience of dictatorship intersects with the global context of the 1960s, and how the era’s momentum led to “our own May ’68,” shaping the social landscape of the post-dictatorship years.

Sunday, 16 November 2025
At midnight, the Greek-language edition of Greek Music Express – “Musical Suburbs” with Hercules Economou ushers in 17 November with political hip hop by Social Waste, Kinoi Thnitoi, Nea Taxis Pragmaton, and Stichima.

Monday, 17 November 2025
At 09:00 Athens time, “Time in Greece” with Nikolas Angelidis hosts actor Giannis Bostantzoglou, who will share personal recollections from the period of the uprising.
At 12:00, on “Faraway Words”, Natasa Vissarionos speaks with Andreas Boukas, president of the Centre for Hellenic Culture in Sweden (KEPS) and researcher, about the anti-dictatorship activities of Greeks in Sweden and the impact of the uprising on the Greek diaspora there.

At 14:00, the English-language edition of Greek Music Express with Hercules Economou celebrates the anniversary with songs inspired by the day: Tsaknis revisits November ’90, Delivorias sings The Anniversary, Loizos calls us To the Demonstration, and Markopoulos sets to music the verse: “Come to the Polytechnic / I have a few more words to tell you.”

At 17:00, “Heliotropie” with Giannis Papoutsakis presents “The Polytechnic in Poetry”, featuring works by Yiannis Ritsos, Nikiforos Vrettakos, Manolis Anagnostakis, Kostoula Mitropoulou, Ilias Grigoris, Vasilis Rotas, and others, interwoven with songs written for – or heard at – the Polytechnic during the days of the uprising.

At 20:00, the music program “Irregular Notes” with Stelios Ioannidis is devoted entirely to the day of remembrance.
At 22:00, “Our Town” with Themis Rodamitis offers a reflective tribute 52 years after the Polytechnic Uprising, featuring Dimitris Papachristos, the voice of the improvised “Polytechnic Radio” station. With the urgency and passion that defined his broadcasts, he revisits the dramatic events as he lived them – the violence, the fear, the courage, the sacrifice, and the rallying cry of “the struggling students, the struggling Greeks.”

* Also, on Wednesday, 19 November, at 22:00 Athens time, the programme “Remarkable Personalities” with Stavroula Karali will welcome film director Vasilis Douvalis, whose film Affection to the People touches on the mechanisms of control and censorship imposed during the years of the military junta.
