On today’s musical journey, we delved into the long history of Mode Plagal and the remarkable career of Takis Kanellos, tracing how a group of inspired musicians came together in the mid-1990s to break down the boundaries of the Greek music scene.

We heard how the traditional odd meters of Thrace and Epirus blended organically with funk, modal jazz and African polyrhythms. We explored their major international collaborations with ensembles from the East and leading Greek artists, and focused on Takis Kanellos’ explosive, tight drumming, a sound that earned the respect of the international jazz community and continues to inspire Greeks around the world.
