The program welcomed Giorgos Salim, Vice President of the Greek Community of Tilburg and a member of the administration of the “Platon” Greek School, based in the Dutch city.
Mr. Salim described his life journey, from Libya, where he was born (his mother is Greek and his father is Libyan), to Athens, then Edinburgh, where he lived for 12 years, and finally the Netherlands, where he has lived for the past 16–17 years. As he explained, he began working from a young age, while maintaining a deep passion for his homeland, Greece.
In the Netherlands, he became actively involved in community affairs and the Greek diaspora. As he noted, approximately 2,000 to 3,000 Greeks live in Tilburg, while the number across the country is estimated at around 37,000.
According to him, the Greek community’s most important achievement is the “Platon” Greek School, which operates every Saturday and has around 20 students. Despite the school being 60 km from his home, all three of his children attend regularly.
This year, the school bell will ring once again on September 12.
