On Tuesday, 6 October 2026, “Common Ground” on Voice of Greece took us to Vargiani, a small village of stone houses on the western slopes of Mount Parnassus.
We explored its history, the challenges facing its few permanent residents and those running its four food and drink establishments, and the natural beauty and sights that draw visitors, especially on weekends.
Our guests were Thymios Tsiknis, photojournalist and author; Efstathios Kolliris, president of the Vargiani Association; Ilias Gouliamos, who runs one of the village’s two tavernas; and Athanasia Papaprokopiou, the only woman working in Vargiani’s food and drink sector. She rents the former primary school building, which she now runs as the village café.
