On Monday, 9 November 2026, at 22:00 Athens time, Voice of Greece’s “Our Town” welcomes director Emily Louizou and actress Lida Koutsodaskalou.
The two artists, each with a distinctive presence in theater, will discuss contemporary theater, repertoire, and the relevance of dramatic writing today. They will explore the value of working as an ensemble and how excessive ambition and the need to dominate can undermine collective work. They will also address the issues facing theater in Greece and the different approaches to acting taken by younger and older generations.
Emily Louizou will share experiences from her career in London and her significant collaborations. She will also discuss the productions she is directing: “Gloria” by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, at the Horn Theatre, and “Bacon,” at the Anesis Theatre.
Lida Koutsodaskalou will talk about her studies in New York and her role in “Reading Lolita in Tehran,” performed at the Basement stage of the Karolos Koun Art Theatre. Based on Azar Nafisi’s book, the production tells the true story of women who met in secret to read literature, defending freedom of thought and women’s place in society under an oppressive regime.
The studio conversation will also explore subjects that engage the younger generation: literature, the value of play, the search for a poetic perspective on reality, and humor as a source of zest for life.
