A song dedication on EIR’s AM band

Our good friend Mrs Katy Raouzaiou from Syros, daughter and mother of a sailor,
sent us the following story about EIP, the AM band,
the dedications to our sailors there on the ships they sail.

The narrator is a beloved close relative of hers.

Thank you very much, Mrs Raouzaiou!

“A song dedication on EIR’s AM band”
Κby Kaiti Raouzaiou

1965 … On board …

Day and night trip, away from home…

On a break from shift… with the company of the small transistor always!

The AM band were mixing the radio stations, as if they were playing with his pain, but he waited patiently for the E.I.R., the broadcast of the Armed Forces with song dedications for the Greek Sailors!

Greece Time 6 p.m.
And the first dedication from our show today… ( the voice of the announcer was heard with interruptions…) is it for the ship under a Greek flag…? -interruption….- to the second engineer A…- interruption…- – ..
He never heard his full name. But he understood… He shivered… He trembled…

The song dedicated to him by his loved ones, seems to have been respected even by the AM band, until the end!
Vebo’s crystal clear voice sounded, and he turned up the volume to full!!

A sigh escaped his chest like redemption, and along with the tears from his watery eyes, he let them disappear into the vastness of the Atlantic.
