Dr. Minas Alexiadis on ”Fair Winds and Following Shifts” | 23.12.2023, 08.00

On Saturday 23 December 2023 at 08.00 Athens time Mr. Minas Alexiadis, Emeritus Professor of Folklore at the Department of Philology of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Athens and President of the Folklore Society, transports us to the wonderful world of traditions, the customs and traditions of Christmas, New Year and Epiphany, on the show ”Fair Winds and Following Seas” with Antonis Karagiannakis.

In his own vivid and simple way, Mr. Alexiadis describes various Greek festive customs.
He talks to us about the “dendroxylo” tree-wood, the Christmas tree, the “podariko” custom of the first house guest on New Year’s Day, the delicacies of the season, the Vasilopita New Year’s Day cake, the Cross tossed in the sea, holiday card games, and many more interesting things that we come across and experience these days
All this in a Christmas mood and spirit, interspersed with carols from various parts of our country.
