Kyriakos Charalambides is the “Poet of the Week” on Voice of Greece | 17 – 23 Mar. 2025

In celebration of World Poetry Day, which is observed annually with the arrival of spring on March 21st, “Voice of Greece” hosts one of Cyprus’ most renowned poets, the multi-awarded Kyriakos Charalambides.

As part of the podcast series “Poet of the Week”, Kyriakos Charalambides joins Voice of Greece and reads seven of his most emblematic poems.

The podcasts will be broadcast daily (Monday to Friday) at 07:00 and 19:00 Athens time, and on weekends at 19:00 Athens time.

Kyriakos Charalambides, poet, essayist, and translator, was born in Cyprus in 1940. He studied History and Archaeology at the University of Athens, attended Theatre Studies in Athens and Radio Broadcasting in Munich, and served as the Director of Radio at the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation.

He has published sixteen poetry collections, with the first thirteen included in the collected volume “Poems 1961-2017”, published by Ikaros Editions. His works have been translated into English, French, German, Italian, Swedish, Polish, Serbian, Romanian, Bulgarian, and Albanian.

He has received numerous awards, including the State Poetry Prize of both Greece and Cyprus, the Greek Literary Translators’ Award, the International Cavafy Prize, the Cyprus Republic’s Letters Award, the Kostas and Eleni Ourani Prize from the Academy of Athens, and the Readers’ Award.

He is an Honorary Doctor of the Universities of Athens, Thessaloniki, the Aegean, and Cyprus, a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Athens, and a founding member of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts.
