Nayia Yiakoumaki, Director of the Hellenic Centre in London, on “Greece in the UK” | 26 Jan. 2025, 10:00

On Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM Athens time, the program “Greeks Around the World – Greece in the UK” with Eliana Nunes hosts curator Nayia Yiakoumaki, who has been directing the Hellenic Centre in London since 2022. Established in 1994, the Hellenic Centre is a significant cultural institution in London aimed at promoting and disseminating Greek culture.

Nayia Yiakoumaki holds a PhD in Visual Curation and has extensive experience in the arts in both England and Greece. Since 2005, she has been a key member of the curatorial team at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, where she directed the NEON Curatorial Exchange & Award and developed an innovative program of research exhibitions.

In Greece, during 2016-2017, she served as co-director of the Athens Biennale. Her curatorial journey includes numerous exhibitions and productions, such as “Queer Spaces: London, 1980s – Today” (2019) and “Phantoms of Surrealism” (2021). Additionally, since 1991, she has been teaching Curation and Visual Arts at universities in the UK and internationally.

On the program, Nayia Yiakoumakiwill share her personal journey, the activities of the Hellenic Centre in London, and her views on the Greek and Cypriot diaspora in the city, which has seen significant growth in recent years.
