A specialist in Internal Medicine, Dr. Giakoumis holds a Medical Degree and a PhD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. With extensive and internationally recognized experience in medical research, clinical development, and rare diseases, he currently serves as International Medical Director at Novo Nordisk A/S in Denmark. His work focuses on the global development of clinical research programs and innovative therapies, particularly in rare hematological disorders (such as hemoglobinopathies) and advanced treatments.
His distinguished career includes senior roles in the pharmaceutical industry, hospitals, and research institutions. He has served as Regional & Clinical Medical Advisor for Greece and Cyprus at Novo Nordisk Hellas, Medical Manager at Galenica S.A., and Consultant in Hemoglobinopathies at the Thalassemia Unit of GNA “G. Gennimatas.” He has also held executive positions in biotechnology firms and maintained a private clinical practice in Internal Medicine.
