“Our Town” tribute to Giorgos Katsaros | 07 July 2024, 12:00

On Sunday, July 7, “Our Town” is dedicated to Giorgos Katsaros.
The composer and guitarist was an amazing case, unique both in his life and in his work. We can say that he was the first Greek who literally went around the world playing to expatriates and to the wider public of each country the wonderful songs he wrote across the whole spectrum of Greek traditional music.

His appeal was huge as he met big names who he became friends with and entertained them in the shops he played, such as Clark Gable, Rodolfo Valentino, Humphrey Bogard, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, who called him “the Big big Crosby” of America. He will stories about Giorgos Katsaros and his friend, Al Capone.

In the first part of the show, the collector Panagiotis Kounadis will share stories from his unique and valuable archive, including rare and unique material about Katsaros.

In the second part the director Angelos Kovotsos, who is preparing a documentary, will speak about Katsaros.
