“Our Town” tribute to the ‘Mauthausen Trilogy’ by Mikis Theodorakis | 28 July 2024, 12:00

This Sunday, July 28, from 12:00 to 14:00 Athens time, “Our Town” will make a tribute to the ‘Mauthausen Trilogy‘, the eblematic song cycle by Mikis Theodorakis and Iakovos Kampanellis, depicting the harrowing experiences of millions in the SS concentration camps, which serves as a poignant condemnation of fascism.

Joining us in the studio is Aristarchos Papadaniel, the director, producer, and performer, to discuss the epic film “Mauthausen,” the latest collaboration between Theodorakis, Kampanellis, and director Panagiotis Koundouras under the production of Syllipsis. Filmed at the historic Mauthausen Memorial in Austria, the movie unveils the unpublished text by Iakovos Kampanellis titled “Mauthausen Travelogue, May 1988.” During the show, we will feature the moving songs from the film, performed by Aristarchos Daniel and cellist Aris Zervas.

Guests on the show include Katerina Kampanelli, providing insights into her father’s work and the remarkable collaboration of Papadaniel, Zervas, and Koundouras. Sound engineer Stelios Giannakopoulos will share his experiences working with Mikis on the project “Εχθρός Λαός“, while director Nikos Tzimas will reflect on his friendship with the composer and their joint projects, including the iconic “Ο άνθρωπος με το γαρύφαλλο“. Additionally, Giannis Platsidakis will share his father’s survival story from Mauthausen, a close friend of Mikis Theodorakis, and Asteris Kutulas will recount his experiences attending Mikis’s concerts for Mauthausen worldwide.
