Yiannis Metzikof-Papadakis on ”Our town” | Sunday 22 October 2023

The acclaimed painter, set designer, and costume designer talks about his childhood and family life that defined him, in the isolated Gramvousa of Crete where he learned from a young age that “human hands are precious and what they make will be rewarded”.

The artist and graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts talks about his teachers Yiannis Moralis and Vasilis Vassiliadis, but also about his collaborations with the Greek National Opera, the National Theatre of Greece, the Art Theatre, and many Municipal and Regional Theaters. He talks about the significant Greek directors he collaborated with (Cacoyannis, Koundouros, Voutsinas, Volanakis, Michailidis, choreographer Zouzou Nikoloudi, and others), his participation in important exhibitions both in Greece and abroad through which he garnered recognition and a sense of reward for his work.

On the show, he talks about the cities he lived in, the values of friendship, love, and cooperation, a sense of humor and being a compassionate human being, while he also remembers the phrase of Irene Papas that he adhered to in his own journey: “In theater, try to work like folk craftsmen.”

The show features music “plucked” from places where he has lived and from theatrical performances in which he participated.
