On Saturday, May 24, from 12:00 to 13:00 Athens time (with a repeat broadcast on Sunday, May 25, from 04:00 to 05:00), the radio program “Our Town” will present a special tribute to Giorgos Kakoulidis — a leading poet and thinker of the 1980s generation.
This episode honors the distinguished poet and visual artist, whose untimely passing left a significant void in the cultural landscape. It will highlight key moments from his literary and artistic journey, featuring rare archival material and insightful commentary.
Literary critic, translator, and author Titika Dimitroulia will discuss his poetic legacy. Actor and director Renos Haralambidis will share reflections on Kakoulidis, including his unique and representative documentary “A Mad Straight Line,” from which an audio excerpt will be aired. Selected poems will be read by Lito Tsekoura.
Visual artist and professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts, Marios Spiliopoulos, will speak about Kakoulidis’ work in the visual arts.
The program will also feature short texts by Giorgos Markopoulos, Giorgos Blanas, N.G. Xydakis, and Vassilis Tsokopoulos.
Songs set to Kakoulidis’ poetry, composed by Thanos Mikroutsikos, Giorgos Kypourgos, and others, will also be broadcast.
Produced and presented by Themis Rodamitis.
