Thirteen years have passed since the day the shutdown of ERT was announced.
Yet ERT never truly ceased to exist—not even for a single day. Through the determination and historic struggle of its employees, the public broadcaster remained on the air for two years, until its official reopening on 11 June 2015.
Nikolas Angelidis, who experienced those dramatic events firsthand, looks back on the efforts of ERT’s regional stations to keep broadcasting, as well as the crucial role of ERT3, which continued transmitting a television signal without interruption throughout that period.
These are memories of a struggle that has earned its place in history: a unique movement of resistance and solidarity, unprecedented in the world of public broadcasting, and a remarkable victory achieved by employees against all odds.
Today, we remember. Because when we forget, we risk allowing history’s lessons—and those who fought to preserve them—to fade into oblivion.
