From Hermes of Pera to Heracles of Tatavla, and from Apollon to Panionios, today’s research takes us to the first Greek sporting clubs.
Their activities extended far beyond the boundaries of sport. Hephaestus, Fostir, Robert College, Aris of Büyükdere, Achilles of Tzavalia, Jason, Elpis of Chalcedon, Aster of Kuzguncuk, Ajax of Diplokionion, Olympia of Makriköy, and Hermes of Vlanga are just some of the teams that played a leading role in the sporting life of Constantinople.
In Smyrna, we initially encounter Orpheus and Gymnasion, which eventually gave rise to Apollon and Panionios. We also come across Pelops of Melantia, Onassis’ team, and Ionikos Asteras.
A complete record of ALL the Greek sporting associations, the result of painstaking research by Nikolas Angelidis and the program “Time in Greece.”
