1964: Right-wing extremists attack the Parliament | 03 July 2024

The show “Time in Greece” with Nikos Angelidis revisits a historic event from July 3, 1964. On that day, far-right protesters stormed the Greek Parliament during a discussion on the Cyprus problem. A group of far-right elements invade Parliament, clash with Parliament officials. The intruders come to blows with Centre Union MPs. The incident resulted in injuries to a minister and five MPs. The press at the time described the incident as an attempted coup. Two individuals, writer Renos Apostolidis and prefectural official Achilleas Vittas, were accused of instigating the attack and received 2.5-year prison sentences. 22 of the 32 people arrested for participating in the riots are sentenced to shorter sentences…
