A “Black Spider” Under the Crossbar | 20 Mar. 2025

The show “Time in Freece” dares to make… a different tribute. To the greatest goalkeeper in history. The Soviet Lev Yashin. He was called the “Black Spider” because he spread his web across the entire goal, and no one could easily breach it… He was also called the “Black Octopus” because his arms and legs were everywhere, guarding his goal in ways football had never seen before. They called him the “Black Panther” because he would dive for the ball and grab it like a wild animal… He always wore two hats… and would change them for good luck if needed. Early in his career, he didn’t wear gloves… Then he started, and the ball would stick to his hands as if it were a fairy tale. He always wore black… Only black… Both for the National Team of the once-famous Soviet Union and for the great Dynamo Moscow… the team of the Red Army, which he faithfully served throughout his career.

Once, they asked him how he stays calm… to play under the crossbar. “I smoke a cigarette and have a drink,” he replied… To tighten his muscles, he explained…

Ladies and gentlemen, “Time in Greece” and Nikolas Angelidis present a radio documentary about the greatest goalkeeper in history...
