Captain Dimitris Fragoulis from Megara continues for the second day to share stories and memories from his long journey at sea and on ships.
He first boarded a ship in February 1980 in Agioi Theodoroi, aboard the 20,000-ton tanker “CHATAN” of the Vardinogiannis Group. His first experience in a foreign port-city, Alexandria, left a lasting impression on him. “I will never forget the noise in the streets and the different world with customs so unlike ours. But in Egypt, they like us, they love us Greeks. We even visited the famous pastry shop ‘ATHINAIOS.’ Wonderful moments! I went back in 2021, but the city of Alexandria had changed a lot,” recalls Captain Dimitris.
He also shares the story of when he met his classmate and childhood friend, Metropolitan Gregory of Cameroon, at a port in the African country, where he was with the M/V “BYZANTIUM.” Finally, he recounts a story where, as the second captain (the navigator), he and his crew found themselves in a very difficult situation.
