Two days before setting off on his next voyage, Captain Dimitris Petrakis from Kimolos spoke on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” and Voice of Greece.
He shared his emotions just days before his departure, describing “the sadness and melancholy of leaving the island and the indescribable joy—like a resurrection—when returning.” The chief officer, also known as the Grammatikos, expressed these feelings vividly.
“My training voyage, which was crucial for my career as a cadet, lasted from March 15, 2015, until September 2025. I boarded the ship in Ikonio, Piraeus, and we sailed the Europe–Asia route...
After that, I embarked on my first official voyage aboard the 14,000-ton vessel M/V Thalassa Axia. I graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy of Aspropyrgos, and now I am preparing to depart as a second captain on a 150,000-ton tanker,” said Captain Dimitris Petrakis.
Fair winds and following seas, Captain!
