Captain Michalis Minogiannis on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” | 10 Feb. 2025

In 1966, when I graduated from Neapolis High School here in Laconia, most of us turned to the sea and built our careers there—as captains, radio operators, engineers, and in other maritime professions. Only one classmate became a doctor, and another a professor,” recalls Captain Michalis Minogiannis.

“I feel both emotional and joyful when I meet former students who shake my hand, as I once served as a professor and Director of Studies at the Aspropyrgos Merchant Marine Academy, teaching at KESEN and in rescue training programs. Now, I am especially happy and proud because, this September, the Neapolis-Laconia Merchant Marine Academy will begin operations—the only one in the entire Peloponnese—training young men and women to join our modern Greek commercial fleet,” Captain Michalis shared.
