Captain Savas Ntoutsoulis from Rhodes, currently dealing with the aftermath of floods caused by intense weather conditions, speaks on “Fair Winds and Following Seas”. As he prepares to embark on a new voyage, he reflects on the challenges faced during this heavy rainstorm that caused damage to his home. Nevertheless, his positive and resilient mindset shines through, true to his nature as a sailor.
Starting his maritime career in 1994 with the M/V “DESERT FALCON,” a 25,000-ton cargo ship from Eleusis, Captain Savas shares his deep love for the sea. “The sea is my great passion, and I can’t stay away from it,” he says, noting that his son, already knowledgeable about ship stability at just 12 years old, will likely follow in his footsteps.
He recalls a particularly tough experience with Hurricane “Josephine” in 2008, and emphasizes the importance of teamwork: “The crew makes the captain, and the captain makes the crew,” underscoring the mutual respect and collaboration required on board. For Captain Savas, knowledge and seamanship are earned through experience on the sea.
