Eliza Karampetian-Nikotian, Head of Public Relations and Advertising at the NGO Safe Water Sports, spoke on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on the Voice of Greece.
“In 2025, Greece recorded 357 drowning deaths at sea and 19 in inland waters, including swimming pools, lakes, and rivers.
A large percentage of parents are not familiar with the basic safety rules for children and adults when it comes to water sports. That is why raising awareness and following safety guidelines are essential to preventing tragic accidents. We run educational programs for children, where they learn important water safety skills and, of course, how to swim,” Ms. Karampetian-Nikotian said.
She concluded by emphasizing:
“As Greeks, we must learn to live with the sea. We do not fear it—we respect it.”
