Evi Filippou was a guest on “Voices and Music” on 10-27-22 at 6 pm Greece local time.
Evi started playing the drums at the age of 7. With a scholarship from the Athens Concert Hall, she graduated from the Conservatory of Volos and moved to Berlin in 2011, where she continued her Bachelor’s and Master’s studies at the Hochschule für Musik “Anns Eisler” (BA and MA degrees with distinction).
Her professional experience includes participation in orchestras and chamber music ensembles (including the Bolshoi Ballet Orchestra, Ensemble United Berlin) as well as solo performances of classical and improvised music and duo collaborations (“ff duet” with Katerina Fotinaki, “blowslap” duo with saxophonist Hayden Chisholm). Filippou is also active on the jazz scene, playing with Stefan Schultze’s Large Ensemble and Chris Dahlgren’s DHALGREN, among others. Together with harpist Andrea Voets she works on live music film projects (music journalism, including “Xenitia – a concert documentary on migration”). Evi plays her own music and covers with her quintet at Evitable.
Musical theater is also a big part of her artistic life (founding member of the ensemble “Opera Lab Berlin”). She participates in many music theater productions (including the New Workshop of the Berlin State Opera, Hauen und Stechen Musiktheater Kollektiv).
Since 2016, Evi has also been a lecturer in Berlin primary schools, sponsored by “Vincentino eV – Culture supports children in Berlin”.
Constantly engaged with the coexistence of composition and improvisation, precision and authentic personal expression, Evi lives and practices in Berlin.
