Greek-Cypriot soprano Vivianna Giannaki joined us live in the Voice of Greece studio.
The occasion was her upcoming concert, “Maria and the Tango,” to be held in Athens on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, at the historic hall of the Parnassos Literary Society. She will be joined on stage by guitarist Mariano Gil and pianist Leonardo Daniel Marconi, in a performance that aims to convey their shared admiration and passion for two luminous artistic icons—Maria Callas and Argentinian Tango.
The concert will feature Argentinian tango music, in honor of Maria Callas, a genre the legendary soprano was known to particularly enjoy—both listening to and dancing to. The event is held under the auspices of the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Greece, in collaboration with the House of Cyprus Cultural Center.
Vivianna Giannaki, of Greek-Cypriot origin, and Argentine-Italian Mariano Gil, perform songs from their countries of origin during their concerts: pieces in the Cypriot dialect, Spanish, Greek, French, English, as well as Sephardic songs. They have participated in major international festivals in the United States, Spain, Italy, Argentina, Greece, and Cyprus.
