“Faraway Words” about Greeks in Finland | 04 Feb. 2025

In the show, we hosted from Helsinki, Evangelos Velentzias, president of the Greek Association of Finland and professor of the Greek language, who spoke about life in Finland, Greek language courses for both children and adults, Finnish interest in Greece, and the activities of the Association (online lectures, traditional dances, etc.).

As he mentioned, there are currently about 2,000 Greeks living in Finland, most of whom work in the technology sector (IT) and the construction industry. The Finnish government offers mother tongue lessons to the children of migrants twice a week (provided there are at least 12 children), and the Association also provides additional courses.
