Captain Giannis Kouyoumtzoglou, currently anchored at Samarinda bay in Indonesia waiting to load coal, spoke briefly on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” to greet the audience.
Next, Master Charalambos Taratoridis, originally from Pyrgochori in Kavala, shared his 38 years of documented and dedicated maritime service, without any regrets for his decision to pursue a career at sea. He first boarded in 1970 on the yacht “Radia” of the Mavroleon family, and later continued on the “M/V GIANNINA” which he acquired from the Netherlands. “At that time,” Master Babis tells us, “the teacher earned 1,200 drachmas, and the third engineer, who I took over, earned 220 pounds, which was about 15,000 drachmas.”
