Giorgos Platanakis on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” | 19 Sept. 2024

The veteran radio operator Giorgos Platanakis from Zakros, Crete, is at the helm of “Voice of Greece” and the show “Fair Winds and Following Seas.”

His first voyage was in the summer of 1972 on the ship “ALKES,” which he boarded in Volos. There, he unwittingly witnessed how cigarette smuggling was carried out. His second ship was the “Efstathios,” a steamship, an old wreck he took from Perama. It was a very old vessel with many issues, including a faulty radio. He didn’t stay on board long, about two months. Then fate intervened… Shortly after he left, the ship sank, dragging the entire crew to the bottom.

Due to the wealth of material, the show CONTINUES…
