Bilingualism is a serious issue for immigrant families.
On Sunday, November 3, 2024, Chryssa Oikonomidou talked with Elina Stamatatou on the show “Greeks Around the World – Greece in Denmark” about the efforts being made through “Paidokipos” to support Greek-origin children and parents in Copenhagen who use two or more languages and whose lives combine different cultures.
Chryssa Oikonomidou is the founder of Paidokipos and is responsible for the educational programs and activities of the association. With a background in Marketing and experience as an executive in a multinational company, she eventually pursued new studies to address the issue of bilingualism in her family.
She is a graduate of the program “Preschool Education: Experiential Learning and Modern Care Methods” from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and “Multilingual Practices: Tackling Challenges and Creating Opportunities” from the University of Groningen.
She participates in the program “Paths in Teaching Greek as a Second/Foreign Language” of the Centre for the Greek Language. In the past, she has worked in a Danish kindergarten and has led an Interactive Theater Play group at a Danish school in Copenhagen.
Additionally, she has been a founding member and ambassador of the PEaCH Project, a program funded by the European Union aimed at supporting and empowering bilingual children and the cultural and linguistic heritage of Europe.
