Pianist, composer and writer Sakis Papadimitriou is one of the key figures in Greek jazz. He started studying piano at a very early age and later he continued with classical guitar. He holds a degree from the Philosophy Department of the University of Ioannina and the Department of Education of Patras University. Papadimitriou is a true jazz legend; his albums with Georgia Sylleou “The Song of Lulu” and “Open Routes”, which we will be exploring today, are highly sophisticated works. At the same time, he has authored numerous books on the history of Jazz as well as its connection with literature. Turning to singer, musician and writer Georgia Syllaiou, she was born in Thessaloniki where she studied music and singing. She continued her studies in Austria (in Lied and Oratorio), while also studying contemporary musical trends, vocal expression and theater in the Netherlands. She first appeared in Greece with small music groups or as a soloist with orchestras and choirs, in the late 80s. From 1995 onwards, her fruitful collaboration with Sakis Papadimitriou began.
