Today, we continue our tribute to statues with songs that contain references to them and share a more rock sound or character. Here, the word ‘rock’ is used to denote not one single genre as such, but something unconventional and unexpected, something alternative that goes beyond the frontiers of established forms and styles. Singer-songwriters such as Vasilis Kazoulis, Foivos Delivorias and the Katsimiha brothers, as well as solid, original vocalists such as Theodosia Tsatsou, Penny Xenaki and Nena Venetsanou all belong to this category. In the Latin-flavoured “There is no taxi” song, Sofia Papazoglou sings: “From the open window, I saw you like a statue, mute, diving into the asphalt”.
