Greeks around the world: Anastasios Graikos (Greece in Denmark) | 01.10.2023

This episode of “Greeks of the World” is joined by Anastasios Graikos, Head of the Operational Finance Division of the Danish Refugee Council.

It is one of the world’s largest NGOs, where a team of 35 people of 22 different nationalities oversees the finances of 42 countries.

Mr. Graikos has studied Environmental Engineering Technology, with postgraduate studies in Management, Organizational Psychology and Adult Education. He settled in Copenhagen about two years ago, following a 14-year-long journey.

He has worked in countries such as France, Turkey, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Sudan, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Lebanon, the Ukraine, and, of course, Greece, with organizations such as Médecins Sans Frontières, Médecins du Monde, Solidarités International etc.

He also speaks 5 languages!

As he himself says, he is thrilled to be able to contribute to people who were not born as lucky as he was. What he has learned is that people with far fewer comforts are happy and grateful for their life.

He has respect for diversity and tolerance. What has changed him is that he has a much greater appreciation of carefree living and freedom, having lived in places where these things are not a given.

In Copenhagen-Denmark he was won over by the directness of the people and the organization of the State. He would also like to help Greece, if given the opportunity.

He has two wonderful children in Canada, Anna and Nikos, whom he goes to visit 3 times a year. His current partner is Ukrainian, so the war has directly affected them and is part of their day-to-day life.
