On Sunday, December 4, the Voice of Greece, in the framework of its cooperation with the Greek Communities of the Greek Diaspora, presents the Greek archaeologist who became internationally known for his struggle for the discovery and repatriation of stolen antiquities, Dr. Christos Tsirogiannis, Associate Professor at the Museum of Ancient Art of the University of Aarhus in Denmark.
He studied archeology and art history at the University of Athens. He worked in the Ministries of Culture and Justice, was a volunteer collaborator of the Art Department of the Hellenic Police, and was a member of the Greek Working Group that repatriated looted antiquities from the Getty Museum, as well as from galleries, private collections, and auctions.
In 2013, he received the annual “Award for Art Protection and Security from the Association for Research into Crimes against Art”. He also served as a researcher at the Scottish Center for Crime and Justice Research at the University of Glasgow. He holds a doctorate from the University of Cambridge in the international network of illicit antiquities.
He maintains a regular column, “Nekyia”, in The Journal of Art Crime, where he has published several cases of illegal antiquities that had not been detected before.
