Kostas Vlassopoulos, Professor of Ancient History at the Uni. of Crete, on ”Imprint” | 09 Nov. 2023

On Thursday, November 9, 12:00 Greek time, the show “Imprint”on “Voice of Greece” with Fuli Zavitsanou, meets Kostas Vlassopoulos, Professor at the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete, head of an international research project on the role of slaves in the evolution of ancient societies and cultures.

He talks about the perspective of historical research “from the bottom up” that focuses on “invisible” social classes, and in this case slaves, examining them not only as objects of oppression and exploitation but also as active historical subjects.

He also talks about the book “My Whole Life. Everyday Stories of Slaves from Antiquity” published by the University Press of Crete, but also about his highly interesting courses on the open digital platform Mathesis, in which he examines the interactions between the ancient Greeks and other peoples of the Mediterranean and the Near East (Greeks and Barbarians 1 and 2).
