Panagiotis Zannis on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” | 01 Oct. 2024

Panagiotis Zannis from Salamina talks about his childhood in Ermoupolis, Syros, by the sea, as his father was a fisherman. Later, as a young man, he worked at the Syros shipyard “Neorion.” These experiences and images led him to decide to pursue a career as a marine engineer.

His first voyage was in 1976 from Bremen on a general cargo ship of R+K called Vasileios B, where he worked as a cadet for six months. He later rejoined the same ship, now under a different company and name, Helios, continuing as a third engineer. Most of his career was spent with Golden Union, traveling on cement ships across the world.

Panagiotis advises young sailors to love the seafaring profession and to serve it with passion and dedication, despite the challenges they may face. Without that passion, he believes they will have no future in the sea and on ships.
