Visual artist Sofia Datseri from Ierapetra, Crete, is our guest on this episode of ”Saturday Shift”/
“I am inspired by the sea, my homeland and Cretan tradition. I had nothing to do with painting. I studied History-Archaeology at Ioannina University and then I learnt wood carving, loom and at the age of 30 I discovered painting and I dedicated my life to it”, says Sofia Datseri.
She adds: “My artistic tendency led me to painting and many times I delve into my soul to find this inspiration and create. The sea is for me my great girlfriend, I tell her everything. She is my consolation, my freedom, my inspiration. The sea is my companion both in winter and summer”, emphasizes the Cretan painter.
Finally, Sofia Datseri characteristically mentions that she tries to highlight with a special piece of her work parts of our folk tradition and art, which are still alive and to lead them with respect to new paths.
