Captain Michalis A. Chatzipetros, descendant of a proud seafaring family, speaks about the Nautical Museum of the Heroic Island of Kasos.
“The effort to create the Nautical Museum of Kasos was begun many years ago by my late father. With much personal work, struggle, expenses, and sacrifices, we managed to bring it to the state it is in today,” notes Captain Michalis, and continues:
“There are objects dating from the 18th century to the present day. You will see maps, radars, sextants, compasses, ship wheels, and old documents – items my father managed to collect from old Kassian ships before they were scrapped, as well as from many Kassian shipping offices. After all, Kasos once had at least 25 shipowning families.”
