On Tuesday, 1 September 2026, Voice of Greece’s “Common Ground” took us to Elati, Trikala, or Tyrna, as locals still call it by its old name.
Our guides included Vangelis Chamtsas, former school principal, who spoke about the area’s history, and Kostas Brizis, president of the local community, who discussed village life today, local sights and the challenges the community faces, including the lingering damage from Storm Daniel.
We also spoke with filmmaker Stergios Dinopoulos, who comes from Elati and shot his highly successful film Bearcave (Arkoudotrypa) there, and Angelos Patsiatzis, a woodcarver and woodcarving teacher whose workshop is in Vrontero and whose works adorn many shops in Tyrna.
