We turn the calendar back 49 years to a Eurovision Song Contest that was very different from the one we know today.
The year is 1977, and we are in London. Through a reverse countdown, we revisit the contest’s top fifteen entries, listening once again to the songs and discovering the stories behind the artists who performed them.
By then, Eurovision had already been part of Europe’s musical landscape for 21 years. The contest had begun in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1956, and was steadily establishing itself as one of the continent’s most beloved cultural events.
For Greece, 1977 marked only its third participation in the competition—one that would leave a lasting mark on Eurovision history.
