Originally from the Peloponnese, Marilena Alevra grew up in Haidari. After finishing high school and following a discussion with one of her teachers, she decided to study midwifery. That was the beginning of a journey into a profession she loves, but one that also made her aware of the problems in Greece, particularly in the healthcare sector.
Due to the situation in midwifery in Greece, and after working in various other fields, she sought a midwife position abroad in search of a better future. She moved to Denmark, where she began the necessary language courses in order to work in healthcare, while at the same time working as a waitress and hotel maid.
The path to practicing midwifery in Denmark was not easy: it required great effort, numerous applications and rejections, certification, and practical training for her to succeed in becoming a midwife at Herlev Hospital today.
