The show covers top stories of the Greek Diaspora, featuring interviews with Greek expats or natives who choose to leave Greece behind to travel, study, or work abroad. Maira Vazaiou, stage designer, is a guest on this episode of Faraway Words. She trained at Central School Of Speech & Drama. Born in Greece she has found a second home in London where she is based for the last 20 years.
Her design of Macbeth was selected to represent her country of origin at the international exhibition of scenography Prague Quadrennial in 2019.
Forthcoming projects include Midsummer Night’s Dream for the English Theatre Of Vienna, Mary Stuart at the Kakogiannis Institute in Athens and readopting Romeo & Juliet for the Globe Shakespeare Festival in Neuss. During Covid-19 all projects have been postponed. During these uncertain times for theatre Maira teamed up with Theatre Lab Company – who is an associate designer – and a selection of artists, to create two hander plays and explore how and where could be safely shown and keep theatre alive.
