“We would listen to Voice of Greece radio with great joy and anticipation, on our little transistors. All the programs kept us a pleasant company” says captain Sotiris Kalatzopoulos from the village of Monastiri (formerly Varybompi) in Messinia.
He talks to us about his village, about the sea which is his great love, his career in shipping, about the young people today at sea and the importance of the sailor’s wife. He first docked in Genoa on a tanker in 1972. He tells us about the conditions and the early years on the ships and shares with us two conflicts in which he was on board, but all had a happy ending. A radio journey that at some point will continue.
