Captain Giorgos Bourboutzoglou from Andros, a descendant of a seafaring family, takes the helm on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece. He shares memories of his childhood, spent traveling during school holidays with his father, who was also a captain. Encouraged by his mother to follow in his father’s footsteps and explore the profession, he has never regretted his choice.
Today, he sails the world as a captain of large cruise ships. He advises younger generations to focus on their training, stay updated on new regulations, technologies, and industry developments. A graduate of the Syros Merchant Marine Academy, he embarked on his first journey in February 2005 aboard the 294-meter Celebrity Summit in Miami.
His entire career has been in cruise shipping, a field he truly loves. Among his favorite destinations are Puerto Rico and Australia, though he insists, “Greece is in a league of its own, the most beautiful country in the world.”
As he packs his suitcase, Captain Giorgos is getting ready to set sail once more, this time aboard the Serenade of the Seas, departing from Florida, USA, in just a few days.
