“Take Your Time” with Prokopis Agelopoulos | 12 Aug. 2026

On Wednesday, 12 August 2026, after reviewing online and newspaper headlines, we spoke with Efthymios Lekkas, president of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (OASP) and professor of disaster management. He answered our questions about the powerful, deadly earthquake in Colombia, whether it could affect other seismic zones, and the structural resilience of the buildings that collapsed. The first hour concluded with international news presented by Ivana Djordjevic.

In the second hour, we discussed the war in the Middle East with Triantafyllos Karatrantos, who holds a PhD in European security and emerging threats and is a research fellow at ELIAMEP. Our conversation focused on the U.S. president’s intentions and the issue of the Strait of Hormuz.

We then “traveled” to Kissamos, in the Chania region, to discuss the municipality’s plans for managing its protected Natura 2000 areas: Balos, Elafonisi, and Falasarna. These areas face intense pressure from tourist visits in July and August. Kostas Koukourakis, the municipality’s special adviser on spatial planning and the environment, explained its approach to ensuring full protection for these areas and creating a platform for scheduled visits to prevent overcrowding.

Finally, before the sports news with Michalis Ladopoulos, we spoke by phone with director Thomas Moschopoulos, whose production of Euripides’ “Ion” with the Cyprus Theatre Organisation will be performed at Epidaurus on 28 and 29 August.
