On Friday, September 25, 2026, after reviewing current events and the newspaper headlines, we spoke with Grigoris Zarotiadis, a professor of economics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a member of PASOK’s Expansion Committee. We discussed the economy, rising prices, the challenges facing the free market in today’s world, and those facing Greece’s progressive political camp.
Next, Vasilis Papastergiadis, president of the Greek Community of Melbourne and one of the two presidents of the Melbourne Hellas soccer club, joined us from Australia. He spoke about the club’s historic qualification for the Australian Cup final and its chance to win the trophy, which would send the long-established Greek diaspora team to the Asia-Oceania Champions League.
In the second hour, we spoke by phone with Giorgos Kounanis, a lawyer, political scientist, and LGBTQ+ activist in Greece. He told us about a protest scheduled for Friday at 18:30 outside the Turkish Embassy against the persecution of LGBTQ+ people in Turkey, including imprisonment and violations of fundamental human rights.
Then Odysseas Voudouris, president of Social EKAB, discussed “EmpowerHER,” a program for people at risk of trafficking in Greece. It offers Greek language and rights classes to refugee and migrant women who have experienced human trafficking or face other forms of vulnerability, including past abuse, domestic violence, persecution in their countries of origin, and labor exploitation.
In the final part of the show, before the sports news with Tasos Antoninis, we met Elena Stamatopoulou, a young Greek musician who lives and works in Maastricht. She went to the Netherlands to study voice and began playing the oud, an instrument she had known since her school years. She now performs with her own quartet, playing music that brings together tradition and jazz, and is preparing to release her first album.
